Hey, beauties! It’s hard to believe…but we’re officially less than one year away from our wedding day! Time is flying, and we’re accomplishing a ton (and loving the journey!).
One of the first items on the organizational agenda was finalizing our guest list. It truly was one of the toughest things we’ve had to do! We also made the difficult call to not invite children to the wedding, which we didn’t take lightly. We love the kids in our family and friends groups, but we recognized that in order to make the day as stress-free as possible for everyone involved, including the guests, letting the grown-ups fly free without their little ones for the day felt like the right decision.
Since the last time I wrote to you, we also did our engagement shoot! We met our photographers from the amazing Lace and Luce Photography before the big day (much like doing a hair and makeup trial so you know what to expect in advance) to help Evan and I feel comfortable relaxing behind a camera lens that wasn’t for a selfie! We’d never had professional photos taken together before. It was an amazing and wonderful experience, we both really enjoyed the special day and I’d highly recommend to any couple that they make a date out of their engagement shoot! It will be a blast.
In terms of decor and planning, I’ve finally narrowed down a colour scheme. I must admit I had a bit of a tough time doing this, I’ve been fortunate enough to be around so many beautiful weddings, I didn’t know which direction to go in myself! But with the help of my amazing planner, Johanna of Johanna Leigh Event Planning and Design, I’ve locked in colours that feel fresh, whimsical and classic. And I’m thrilled!
Evan and I really enjoyed exploring wedding traditions and deciding on what ones felt right for us to embrace and which we were going to ‘toss’ (pun intended!) out the window! We decided to get rid of the bouquet and garter tosses. They didn’t jive with us. We also didn’t want to do the first look as we felt strongly about having the first time Evan sees me be the moment I’m walking down the aisle. We’re having a family member perform the ceremony as opposed to a minister, and while the colour will be the same, we’re letting our bridesmaids choose from three different style options for their dresses so they can wear something that feels amazing on them! We’re also ditching the giant wedding cake for a small, cute and delicious one to cut.
All that being said, we’re hitting some traditions hard! As I mentioned, my fiance doesn’t get to see me (or my dress) until the big day. The groom and groomsmen will be wearing the same classic black and white attire. My father will be giving me away, we’ll be sharing speeches and we’ve got a large (and awesome!) bridal party. Evan and I will be doing a first dance and we’ll also have a father and daughter and mother and son dance. We found this tradition to be very special. And lastly, we’ll be writing our own vows. I’m pretty sure there will be a lot of tears…
Last but not least, I’ve picked out my dress! I only tried on five dresses and spent way more time on Pinterest than I’d like to admit, but choosing my dress was very, very hard! All I’ll say for now is that my dress is being custom made by Mariana’s Bridal…and I’m giddy with excitement! No details other than that until the big day (and reveal!), sorry friends. 😉
