Grab your notebook and pen and get ready for another Fancy Face Q and A with Brittany Gray!
It’s time for another Fancy Face Q and A with Brittany Gray! I don’t normally speak in the third person, but the rhyme was too good to not write. Sorry! Anyway, I know many of you have written in with some burning questions. I’m really excited to dive into them because this time around there are a number of great lifestyle and business related questions, as well. So let’s take a look and find some answers!
What do you suggest for dark under eye circles for those of us that are 50 plus?
I love Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat Concealer. It’s really sheer so isn’t cakey. For the 50 plus age group who don’t really love a concealer, I’d also recommend the Mac Face and Body or the Dior Face and Body foundations. Again, these are very sheer. They don’t give a huge amount of coverage but they’re also buildable and leave a lovely, healthy glow. You can get a bit of coverage all over your face as well as under your eyes without having to use a heavy concealer.
What is the best facial treatment before wedding days and trials?
I love a microdermabrasion facial, they’re amazing. A hydra facial is also incredible. I tend to go to The Skin Bosses at Gee Beauty or I’ll go to Irena’s Esthetics in Richmond Hill, if you live in the GTA. Both are fabulous. Truthfully, I’d recommend getting microdermabrasion facials regularly as it sloughs off all of that dead skin and gives it this healthy glow. An oxygen facial the day before your wedding would also be terrific. All of those three are great options!
What lip colour were you wearing in the first Q and A video?
I wore our Satin Lip Liner with Dewy Lipstick and a touch of our Love Note Lip Lacquer on top.
What would you recommend for any tinted moisturizers instead of foundation?
I have to admit I’m not a huge tinted moisturizer lover in general, I just don’t reach for them very often! But I do know that Laura Mercier’s Tinted Moisturizer is amazing, she’s kind of known for it. Bobbi Brown also has an excellent one. Those brands that are really geared toward that more natural look, which those two are, are excellent options. If you’re looking for a drugstore option try something like Marcelle’s Sheer Tint Moisturizer, they have a beautiful bronzed one that I love but you have to buy it in store, not online. There is probably something there for you in those three brands, they’re awesome.
How do you find it running a cosmetics business on top of everything else?
I really love all of the different aspects of my business. Obviously the bridal hair and makeup and special event hair and makeup and managing all of that is awesome. This year it’s been amazing bringing in the whole cosmetics line. We’ve been asked time and again for lip liners, colours, highlighter, bronzers and so on so we wanted to have products that we would use and offer to create our signature “Fancy Face’ look. On the manufacturing side of it, getting the products, shipping them out to you all, it’s all really exciting to me! Now, our storefront is yet another element of our business. And I’m in love. To have a hub and an actual place to call home for Fancy Face is so special…so to answer your question, because I’m so passionate about each element of the business, I don’t really find it hard. Of course there are some days that can be challenging. But really, I find it fun. I love it!
I would love to learn more about your bridal glam skin prep routine.
With all of our clients, we love to start them off with our Stardust Gel Under Eye Masks to help bring down any swelling, dark circles, fine lines and so on to really brighten that area. I also use a serum on my clients depending on their skin type. I use a moisturizer on their face and after I take off the eye masks I use an eye cream. I also use the Laneige Sleeping Lip Mask. I really just pamper the client’s skin so it’s fresh, healthy and glowing! And just remember to always keep in mind skin type before applying product.
Teeth whitening recommendations?
I love Crest White Strips, I think they’re very effective. I also love So White TO. She actually comes to my home and uses an all natural, organic system. You lie there for about 45 minutes while she puts the whole contraption on. You can seriously just lie there and watch tv! She also has this great whitening pen that I use between treatments to keep them nice, white and bright! I. Love. White. Teeth.
How did you and your hubs meet?
This is a fun story! We both grew up in Pickering, not a huge place, but had never met growing up. I went to Catholic school and he went to public school. So fast forward to grown up life. I had just wrapped a theatre gig downtown Toronto so I was back home in Pickering living with my parents between contracts. I went to Extreme Fitness in Pickering and met Mark there! He was a personal trainer and I was just there doing my thing trying to stay in shape for theatre and dance. I ignored him for the first two months or so because at the time I just thought it was the right thing for me to do. Maybe it was a bit of a tactic, in a way, haha! 😛 I thought he was cute and eventually he came up to me and we introduced ourselves. Then we did the old cat and mouse for a bit. At one point I was back at them gym and I was on the treadmill. He decided to have a 20 minute conversation with me while I was running and I was too embarrassed to stop because I wanted to look like I was super in shape! Then he asked me out on a date! Since then we’ve been pretty much inseparable and now have two babies, on top of it all!
Dying to see your ring up close!
Haha take a look at the video for a little look-see. 🙂 Mark did good.
Do people ever say that you remind them of JoJo from the Bachelor? Love her! And you!
I also love her! But no, no one has ever told me that before. But thank you that’s so lovely to say! Though I’m gonna point out I think she’s way cuter than I am!
What is the best way to get started on Instagram and get a strong following?
I would say the more authentic you can be the better. I feel like we’ve hit a day and age where people want more of that realness. Thank goodness! So if you’re trying to establish a brand, don’t be afraid to show a bit of who you are as well! I believe that’s really important. I didn’t do that myself for a long time and received some advice to put myself out there more and it really seems to have made a huge difference. So go for it! Also make sure the quality of your photos is excellent and try to post pictures that look good together, as a collection, on the feed. Lastly, be engaged. Make sure you’re replying to comments, writing people back, commenting on other people’s photos. Be present, connected, positive, supportive and kind. Try these things and I think you’ll get your following!
What is your favourite lip colour for a cool skin tone?
I’m going to say that you’d probably look really good in our Fancy Face Ballet Slipper Glaze. You could also wear it with our Satin Lip Liner and it would look very pretty on you!
How do you set your under eye concealer?
I always use the Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder, I love it!
Alright lovelies, that is the Fancy Face Q and A for today! Haha, I did it again. I know there are some questions I didn’t answer this time around but we’ll do another Q and A soon! I hope you learned something helpful this time around.
Til next time…keep following your heart! X
