Before you get started, we’d suggest you give your face a nice steam over a bowl of hot water. Just be careful it’s at the right temperature for you before you stick your face over it! This helps to loosen any dry patches and help your skin soak up the nutrients in the most intense way possible!
Mask #1: Our “Hug In A Mug” DIY Hydrating Face Mask
What you need:
- 2 Tablespoons Organic Plain Greek Yogurt
- 1 teaspoon Olive Oil
- 1 tablespoon Honey (warmed)
- 1.5 tablespoons Finely Ground Coffee Beans
BENEFITS:
Yogurt – Yogurt is an excellent hydrating agent. It’s antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties help to soothe dry and itchy skin.
Olive Oil- Olive oil is a natural product that softens the skin and is also an excellent quick fix for dry eyelashes, elbows, and knees! Talk about a multi-tasker!
Honey – Honey is extremely moisturizing and naturally soothing, with wonderful healing properties. It’s also antibacterial for that extra bit of skincare love!
Coffee Grounds- Very finely ground coffee beans are great to exfoliate with because they don’t dissolve in water. While they scrub away any dead skin cells, the natural acid present in coffee will also help to boost collagen levels. Is there anything better than that!?
Just hurry up and give your face some major love with this DIY hydrating face mask. It’s so simple, sorta delicious and your face will thank you!
Mask #2: The “Perfect Pout” Natural Lip Scrub for Chapped Lips
What you need:
- 2 tablespoons of Coconut Oil
- 1 tablespoons of brown or white Organic Sugar (raw sugar preferred)
- 1 teaspoon Honey
- 1-2 drops of Essential Oil
BENEFITS:
Coconut Oil – Coconut oil contains nourishing fatty acids that help to hydrate your lips. It contains vitamin F (an essential fatty acid) which helps retain the skin’s moisture – ie it will keep working even once the lip scrub has been washed off.
Honey – Honey offers the same benefits to the lips as it does to the skin and helps to combine the coconut oil and sugar. Not to mention it tastes yummy!
Organic Brown or White Sugar – You want to make sure the sugar isn’t too coarse, the finer the better. The sugar will help to exfoliate and sluff off any dead skin while also naturally plumping your lips. Also, fun fact: There is natural glycolic acid in raw sugar.
Essential Oil – You can add in a few drops of your favourite mouth-safe essential oil for a yummy scent, ie – peppermint. We recommend researching your essential oil before using it around the mouth so you know it won’t irritate in any way. Your natural lip scrub is meant to be effective and safe – but if you can find one that’s also delicious, even better!
Mask #3: Our “Liquid Sunshine” DIY Face Mask for Oily Skin
What you need:
- 1 teaspoon of Turmeric
- A generous squeeze Lemon Juice
- 2 tablespoons of Greek Yogurt
Pro tip: Most people think the best way to combat oily skin is to dry it out, while in fact, it’s the opposite! The best thing you can do for oily skin is to hydrate & moisturize using anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory ingredients. This will help combat dehydration that causes an excess of oil. How crazy (awesome) is that?! So get in on this DIY face mask for oily skin if this sounds like you.
BENEFITS:
Turmeric – Turmeric is extremely antibacterial, which helps lessen the oil build up and secretion. The anti-inflammatory qualities can target your pores and calm the skin. It’s also a great, gentle exfoliant that can provide a youthful glow to the skin. And who doesn’t want that perfect glow, right?!
Lemon – The natural citric acid in lemons works as an astringent, helping to tone and control oily skin. This natural type of AHA breaks down dead skin cells that lead to inflammatory forms of acne, such as blackheads.
Greek Yogurt – Greek yogurt is good for many skin types, but it’s particularly beneficial for oily skin because the zinc content regulates oil.
Mask #4: Our “Peace Out Maskne” Face Mask for Acne, Maskne, or Acne-Prone Skin
What you need:
- 3 tablespoons of Aloe
- 1 tablespoon of Honey
- 1 small pinch of Ground Cinnamon
- Tea tree Essential Oil (apply after mask as spot treatment)
(*Note: be gentle while removing this)
We also recommend putting your face mask for acne in the fridge beforehand for that extra soothing feeling as a major bonus to your DIY skincare masks!
BENEFITS:
Aloe – you can buy it at a pharmacy-drug store but we recommend using it in its most natural form. Aloe is a natural antibacterial substance and will kill any acne-causing bacteria. Win! It’s also an anti-inflammatory, so it will help to lessen the redness and irritation that comes with acne.
Honey – Honey helps to balance bacteria, making it great for acne-prone skin. Honey will also help speed up your skin cells’ healing process which is extremely beneficial to anyone who may have acne scarring.
Ground Cinnamon – Cinnamon is filled with anti-inflammatory properties, making it an excellent exfoliant for someone with acne-prone skin. It will leave your skin feeling silky smooth all while helping to combat any redness.
Tea Tree Oil – Tea tree oil helps to calm redness, swelling, and inflammation, making it a great spot treatment to use once the mask has been gently washed off with warm water.
